Why must I suck so badly, I just had a phone interview and wow did I suck, I could not even recall the functions of my most recent job and I could not pull up my resume quick enough - why must I suck so badly. Why do interviewers make me so fricking nervous.I wish I could make a living at being a hermit.

I'd be happy to start such a business with you...we could call it "hermits for hire"...lol

First, you don't suck. People generally have trouble over the phone. We need eye contact, to see their reactions to guage how we are doing. I am guessing but from what you said, the interviewer possibly asked a question that threw you, you lost your concentration and things started to spiral downward. Been there. Done that.

This may sound trite, but you can learn from this experience. What went wrong? Specifically? What information didn't you have?

I have been on several interviews. Interviewing is a learned ability. It will get easier next time.

Hope this helps.

Interviewing is a learned ability

So very true.  The more nervous you are at the interview- the less likely you will get the job.  However, knowing that will make you nervous

I suspect you are looking at it wrong. Most people think the person interviewing them is hoping to find something to judge them on and disqualify them. But if you think about what they are really doing is a job. It may even be a job they don't want to do. They want to get it right and they likely want to get it over with. So, if they are any good, they are going to be disappointed if you don't fufill their qualifications. Usually, they want you to be the right candidate and hope against hope that you are.

You are better off thinking of the person you are interviewing with as an advocate within the company to get your hired. This person is your best friend who is bugging the boss to get you a job. In order to make that relationship work you have to become at ease with this person. The sooner you do that the easier time you will have. Because you do have to convince them you deserve a shot.

I think the best technique for doing this is talk to the interviewer like they were already a friend. Ask them a question a soon as you can, phrase it first to be about the company and then turn that so you are talking about them. You want to get them to tell you both about the company, about their relationship with and within the company, and the position. Getting them to do most of the talking initially and it will put you both at ease (by the way interviewing people isn't necessarily easy either).

One job I ended up with happened because I impressed the interviewer with a different company. He needed a more experienced person but the company he previously worked for needed someone at my level. I hired on there and eventually started a business with the interviewer. My point is...the guy didn't think I was qualified for the job he had but he wanted to help me find a job. I think most people are that way...I really do.

I had a phone interview with a guy who lived in Georgia (I'm in Colorado), for the job I'm working in now. He called me at 7 am, and my electricity had gone off the night before, so my alarm clock hadn't. He woke me up! I had to pretend like I had been awake for a long time. It's funny, I don't really remember that interview...... I'm glad they gave me one in person and I wasn't half asleep during that one!

I DONT SUCK! Wooohoooo!

I had my in person interview with a franchisee of a company I use to do franchise development for - I was so at ease because I knew more about the franchinsing process the he did and I really impressed him pretty soon he was talking about all the things I would be doing - as if I already had the job. PLUS - I'm getting a second interview!!! YEE HAWW! lol

That's my goal in life.

Already have. Trust me the pay sucks and the conditions are worse. The only person you can complain to is yourself and you usually aren't all that helpful. You can't join a union (well duh) and any lobby group you form gets written of as the incessant whinging of a selfish individualist. There's no water cooler culture, in fact no culture at all. Corporate reform is usually an intensely painful spiritual introspection that leaves you disillusioned and exhausted when all is said and done (not that you can complain, introspection is in the job description).

The only plus - getting the job is a breeze. No interview

I see you have carefully thought this out.
